To make the Future Friendly range from plant-based materials, Huhtamaki TP reclaims vast quantities of sugarcane pulp, also known as bagasse. Bagasse is a sugar production by-product. Once the sugarcane’s juice is squeezed out, the tough, fibrous pulp remains. Because it’s a by-product, bagasse is frequently discarded. However, Huhtamaki TP reclaims sugarcane bagasse and uses it to make Future Friendly plates, bowls, trays, hamburger clamshells and more.

Huhtamaki TP utilises one of the most sustainable materials available, bamboo. Bamboo grows so fast it’s classed as a rapidly renewable resource. In fact, an entire bamboo forest can grow in just a few years. Bamboo regenerates from its roots. A new crop can grow without having to be replanted. Bamboo’s strength and heat resistance make it perfect for producing sustainable and highly functional foodservice products. Our windowless products are certified compostable to Australian Standard (AS4736) in industrial facilities where these exist. In addition, our PLA windowed products are certified compostable to ASTM D6400 in industrial facilities where these exist.

Paper Cups

We are proud of our sourcing and corporate social responsibility credentials
The material used in our paper cups is predominantly virgin wood fibre (also known as primary fibre) that has not previously been used in the manufacture of paper board
We don’t use recycled paper for food contact. This is dictated by our interpretation of legislation and of guidelines set by the European Food Safety Authority
Fibre is classified as a renewable natural resource
Our cups are lined with corn-starch, PLA, a rapidly renewable alternative to regular plastic linings
Our cups are compostable and certified to Australian Standard (AS4736) in industrial facilities where these exist
We have single wall and double wall cups available in white, bamboo and our print series with CPLA lids to match
